Choline Chloride

Choline Chloride is a commercial salt of choline for supplementation. Another salt of choline is known as choline bitartrate.

Choline Chloride is widely used in the animal feeds for pigs, calves, poultry and aquatics. As an essential feed additive, choline chloride plays a vital role in improving animal growth and their immunity from diseases.

Choline (2-hydroxyethyl-trimethyl ammonium hydroxide), a natural amine, C5H15NO2, often classed in the vitamin B complex and a constituent of many other biologically important molecules, such as acetylcholine and lecithin. It is a kind of organic compound that can be synthesized in animal body. However, in most cases it should be added into feeds as a largely used vitamin. Choline plays a vital role in adjusting the metabolism and conversion of fat in the body, preventing fat deposition in the liver, kidney and their tissue degeneration, accelerating the reformulation of amino acids and improving their utilization ratio, saving partial methionine.

Insufficient choline in animal feeds may cause choline deficiency. Such as:

1.Poultry: Retarded growth, declined production of eggs in quantity and size. Lower hatch of eggs, accumulation of fat in the liver and kidney, fat degeneration, behavioural disorder, innutrition of muscle.
2.Swine: Retarded growth, behavioural disorder, nervous disorder, innutrition of muscle, reduced fertility and fat deposition in the liver.
3.Cattle: Retarded growthrespiratory disturbance, behavioural disorder and off feed.
4.Fish: Retarded growth, fatty liver, low breeding efficiency, renal and intestinal bleeding.
5.Other animals (cats, dogs and other furbearing animals): Behavioural disorder, fatty liver and matted hairs.

Choline Chloride is currently the most economic form of choline to be mixed with animal feeds as an additive. When it is used in form of powder, be sure to keep from moisture to avoid deliquescence. Attention must also be paid that choline chloride has damaging effect on other vitamins, usually with existence of metallic elements, choline chloride can destroy vitamin A, vitamin D and vitamin K. Therefore it is usually the last item to add in the procedure of feed production and unsuitable to be mixed with multivitamin agent. Formula feeds with choline chloride added should be used as soon as possible.
