What is Choline?

1.A member of vitamin B group, having lipotropism (the ability to emulsify fat);
2.Choline works with inositol (another vitamin B) for the utilization of fat and cholesterol;
3.Choline is one of few substances that can penetrate ˇ°Blood Brain Barrierˇ±. Theˇ°Blood Brain Barrierˇ± plays an important role in protecting our brain from the effect of variational diet. However choline has the ability of getting through this ˇ°Barrierˇ± to create chemical species which help with memorization;
4.Though the propositional intake quantity of choline is still unavailable, an adult diet should have choline content between 500mgs to 900mgs every day;
5.Choline may emulsify cholesterol to prevent its deposit on arterial walls or in cholecysts.

Choline Benefits

1.Control the deposit of cholesterol;
2.Help with signal transmission of nerve impulse, especially for memory formation in the brain;
3.Prevent memory lapses of aged persons ( daily choline intake: 1gram to 5grams);

Choline Deficiency

Nutritional Sources of Choline

Eggs, animal brains, animal hearts and livers, green leafy vegetables, beer yeasts, malts, soybean lecithin.

Choline Supplements

1.Each of six lecithin capsules made from soybeans contains 244mgs inositol and 244mgs choline;
2.Normal B-complex vitamin tonic contains 50mg inositol and choline;
3.The general daily intake of choline is ranging from 500mgs to 1000mgs.

Choline Side Effects

No side effect.

Suggestions

1.It is suggested that you take other B vitamins followed along with choline, because they work together;
2.Person tending to be fretful and excited may increase choline intake;
3.Person who has taken lecithin should also ingest calcium supplements in order to keep the balance of phosphorus and calcium;
4.You may try eating choline-rich food in diet, it will be helpful to improve your memory;
5.If you drink too much alcohol, be sure to supply liver adequate choline for the extra ˇ°workˇ±.
